Local Woman Honored by Culver’s for Charity Work

Michelle Abrams voted by Culver’s guests as Portrait of a Hero contest winner

PRAIRIE DU SAC, Wis. – A deserving Culver’s guest was honored with a surprise celebration worthy of a hero. Michelle Abrams was honored as the winner of Culver’s Portrait of a Hero contest, which asked guests to nominate their personal heroes. A surprise check presentation was held on June 13 at Culver’s of Navarre, Florida. Culver’s co-founder Craig Culver presented Michelle with a $500 donation to the charity of her choice and $500 in Culver’s Gift Cards.

Culver’s guests nominated over 3,700 of their personal heroes. A panel of judges from Culver’s selected the top 25 nominations, and guests then cast over 10,000 votes, selecting Michelle as the most deserving winner.
Michelle was nominated by Ronna Hatfield, a fellow community member, for her efforts to spearhead a weekend food program for 400 children in her community. Upon realizing that some children left school on Friday unsure if they would have food to eat at home, Michelle and a friend rallied volunteers and donations to begin the program that provides each child with four meals for the weekend.

“Michelle saw a huge need in our small town,” wrote Hatfield in her nomination. “The children come to school and often tell their teachers about sharing their food with younger, non-school-age siblings. Although this is heartbreaking to hear, it makes the volunteers happy that they are doing something to help.”

Culver’s Portrait of a Hero contest is an extension of their Custard Hero initiative, which helps guests recognize and honor their personal heroes.
