1802, first onion ring recipe

Nobody knows quite when onion rings were first invented, but the first onion ring recipe appeared in the 1802 cookbook The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined. With their savory goodness, it’s no wonder that onion rings have been popular for more than 200 years!

3 colors of onions

Onions come in three colors: white, red and yellow. Culver's uses white onions in our Onion Rings. Cooking white onions brings out their sweetness, making them the perfect choice for our Onion Rings.

21,000 acres planted

Most of Culver’s white onions come from the Treasure Valley region of Idaho and Oregon, where approximately 21,000 acres of onions are planted every year. The rich soil and dry climate in this area are perfectly suited for growing onions.

June 22

We celebrate National Onion Ring Day each year on June 22. While this national holiday is the perfect excuse to indulge in an order of Onion Rings, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy them any other day of the year!
