After running a dairy farm in Beloit, Wisconsin, for 30 years, Eugene Smith and his wife decided they wanted a change. They found a perfect fit with Culver’s and set out to open a restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, where they felt at home in the farming community. “We have a love of feeding people, whether it’s producing the milk on our farm or working in a restaurant,” explained Eugene.

The Smiths appreciate Culver’s support of agricultural education and continue their involvement in agriculture through the Thank You Farmers Project. In addition to donating Fresh Frozen Custard to the Idaho State FFA Convention, surprising our first ever FFA Essay Contest winner and donating FFA blue jackets to deserving students, Culver’s of Twin Falls also hosts fundraisers for the local FFA chapter. In fact, the restaurant turns its fundraisers into day-long educational events. The local FFA chapter sets up a petting zoo, members of the local media participate in a milking contest and guests are able to try their hand at making butter or whipped cream.
For Eugene, supporting agricultural education is essential to ensuring our country continues to have a supply of wholesome food. “Whether these FFA members become involved in farming directly or in a business that supports farming, it’s so important for them to know where their food comes from,” said Eugene. “These kids will be the policymakers in the future.”

The Smiths found a perfect career for themselves as Culver’s operators, where they are able to continue sharing the importance of agriculture and supporting FFA. “We love being involved in FFA and helping the next generation get a chance to fulfill their dreams,” said Eugene.
