Cheese, Please! How to Become a Charcuterie Pro

Curdis poses with finished charcuterie board.

Let’s be honest, cheese never goes out of style. But when it comes to trendy ways to eat cheese, charcuterie boards are near the top of my list.

My friends always ask for my advice on charcuterie boards, so I wanted to share some of my tips.

Mix It Up

You know what they say, variety is the spice of life! You never know what kind of cheese you or your party guests are going to be in the mood for, so it’s important to include a mix of all different kinds. You also don’t want to forget to add mixed nuts and fruit for a little extra flavor. When it comes to cheese, I don’t usually pick favorites, but on a charcuterie board, parmesan, brie and gorgonzola are crowd-pleasers. It doesn’t get cheddar than that!

Look Good, Taste Good

If you really want to impress your fellow cheese lovers, try making a clever design on your board. I went with a simple look for this board, but I think next time I’ll try a pattern, or maybe the state of Wisconsin!

Curd Nerd tip: If you’re struggling to come up with a design, it’s simple to make your board look like a curd. Just arrange your cheese in a circle and you’re gouda!

It's Always Snack Time

I tried to make this board without snacking, but the foodie in me had other plans. I was just testing to make sure everything was good, ya know? Anyways, you need to snack while you build your board. It’s just part of the experience.

Say Cheese!

After your charcuterie board is done, you’re going to want to snap some photos. Look at different angles. Top down is my favorite. I like to be able to see all the patterns I make with ingredients. Share them on Instagram and tag me at @curdisthecurd so I can see your masterpieces!
