Finding My Cheesy Roots in Stanley, WI

Curdis documented these travels before March 2020.

I was born at a small family dairy in Stanley, Wisconsin, so I decided to take a road trip to northwestern Wisconsin and discover my roots. Check it out!

Where It All Began

LaGrander’s Hillside Dairy is a family-owned operation specializing in cheese. For three generations, the LaGranders have been making people’s lives more joyful with delicious nuggets of cheese, just like me. The dairy farm is tucked among the rolling hills of northwestern Wisconsin, a state that’s famous for its dairy products. It was the perfect place for a pipsqueak curd to wander and play.

Reflecting on My Childhood

Growing up, I always felt loved. It’s hard not to when you’re surrounded by thousands of siblings at any given moment. My siblings, a mix of white and yellow cheese curds, taught me how to see the good in everything and everyone. No matter what we were doing—whether it was playing hide-and-seek in the barn or helping with chores—we always had a good time. That’s just the Wisconsin way!

Looking to the Future

Who knows what the next chapter holds, but I’m excited to go out there and share my love of cheese with the world. There are so many things on my bucket list, I don’t even know where to start. But I do know that no matter where I end up, I want to make my LaGrander family proud.
