Welcome to Curdtoberfest™!
A guide to the Midwest’s cheesiest celebration
Guten Curd! It’s me, Curdis! That’s right, your favorite golden, melty mascot is back and ready to kick off the cheesiest celebration of the season: Curdtoberfest™! Every fall, the Midwest gets a little cozier. The air turns crisp, the leaves turn a golden yellow, and folks start craving comfort food, like Wisconsin Cheese Curds. That’s when Midwesterners know the fall fun is about to begin.
This year is extra special. Not only is it the 10th anniversary of National Cheese Curd Day, which Culver’s founded back in 2015, but my cousin Kurdis von Cheese came to visit me. What a surprise! To bring him up to speed on all the curd-tacular festivities happening when he is here this fall, I wrote this little guide about all the curd-filled fun we have cooked up at Culver’s. Hope you can join us!
What Is Curdtoberfest™?
Glad you asked. Curdtoberfest is Culver’s way of honoring our Wisconsin roots – aka the land of legendary cheese curds (and yours truly). It’s a month-long celebration of all things cheesy and cozy, highlighted by the biggest day of the year, National Cheese Curd Day on October 15. Think of Curdtoberfest as Oktoberfest’s Midwestern cousin: still festive, still full of flavor, but with way more cheesy snacks.
Oktoberfest started as a Bavarian harvest party, and when it came to the U.S. from Germany, the Midwest said, “Yes, please!” It’s been a fall staple ever since, especially in Wisconsin, where we know a thing or two about food, festivals and friendly vibes. Curdtoberfest takes that tradition and gives it a Culver’s twist: golden, melty curds, handcrafted favorites and warm welcomes all around.
Why All the Cheese Curd Cheer?
At Culver’s, we’re all about slowing down and savoring the good stuff: real food, real people and really good cheese curds. Nobody does cheese curds like we do (I mean, I would know), so we decided to make Curdtoberfest the ultimate fall celebration. It’s our way of showing love for the things that make us who we are – from the True Blue Crew™ to our amazing guests to ooey-gooey curds.
And let’s not forget what makes all this curd magic possible – award-winning Wisconsin cheese. A big shoutout to the farmers who care for the cows and the Master Cheesemakers Opens in a new window who turn that dairy into pure gold. You’re the real MVPs of Curdtoberfest. And here’s the thing, you won’t find cheesemakers or cheese like this anywhere else in the world. Wisconsin’s got the curd game locked down, and it’s all thanks to the folks who’ve been perfecting their craft for generations. That’s something worth celebrating with every melty, golden-fried bite.
Top Five Ways to Celebrate Like a True Curd Nerd™
So … how do you Curdtoberfest like a pro? I’ve been cheesin’ on that question for a while now, and honestly, there’s no wrong way to do it. But if you’re looking for some curd-spiration, here’s how I roll.
Step One: Visit your local Culver's and enjoy the excitement and cheesy goodness of Curdtoberfest all month long. Even better? Grab a friend to come with you!
Step Two: Celebrate in delicious fashion with one of our special cheesy delicacies, crafted just for the month of October. The CurderBurger® is back again, featuring a glorious crown of golden-fried cheese. If you’re feeling adventurous, spice things up with Jalapeño Cheese Curds – crispy, zesty and guaranteed to make your taste buds do a happy dance. These limited-time menu items are only available for a short while, so swing by your nearest Culver’s and treat yourself to the ultimate curd experience. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing a snack to go, it’s the perfect way to savor the season, Wisconsin-style.
Step Three: Bring back a classic with our golden, gooey Wisconsin Cheese Curds – but with friends! Try making a curd-cuterie board Opens in a new window to be the center of your Curdtoberfest party!
Step Four: Play some games! Every Curd Nerd loves a good round of “find the heart-shaped cheese curd” or “white cheese, yellow cheese,” where you guess the cheese color before biting into a Wisconsin Cheese Curd. How many can you guess correctly?
Step Five: Get cheesy – really! Try adding some Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese Sauce to your ButterBurger, Crinkle Cut Fries, Pretzel Bites or any other cheesy dream you cook up.
But here’s the real secret. Curdtoberfest is way better when you bring your favorite people along. Because just like cheese curds, good times are meant to be shared – and the more Curd Nerds, the merrier.
A Taste of Wisconsin, Wherever You Are
At the end of the day, Curdtoberfest is more than just a fun fall activity featuring cheese (though, let’s be honest, cheese is a big part of it). It’s about comfort, connection and celebrating the moments that bring us together. Whether you’re dining in, driving through or just swinging by for a snack, take a minute to soak up the season and maybe raise a root beer stein while you’re at it.
So come on, let’s make this fall the cheesiest one yet! Prost!
